‘United 93’ is based on the final flight of the plane that crashed into the woods on 9/11 after three others had hit significant targets. It is presumed 93 was headed for the White House before a revolt by the passengers forced the plane to crash early.
How to describe this docu-drama? Well, it’s a very well-made and dramatic film that pulls no punches, showing what happened to the towers and what might have happened on flight 93. It could almost be a horror film really, such is the shock and terror on peoples faces throughout, if it wasn’t for the fact that most of it is true.
There are no star actors, and the cast are very good. It’s filmed in a shaky ‘documentary’ style format, and there’s no ‘guns and glory’ resolution here, more a sombre atmosphere that makes you feel just like you did that fateful day. Compelling filmmaking, but I wonder how many of you out there will want to be depressed for two hours?
