Superbad
SUPERBAD
SONY
RELEASED 14 September 2007
Not as funny as ‘Knocked Up’, ‘Superbad’ is the second funniest film of 2007, as it would be number one in any other year.
Evan (Michael Cera) is sweet-natured while his friend Seth (Jonah Hill) is a foul-mouthed oik. Evan’s friend Fogel (newcomer Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is the geekiest looking dweeb on the planet. On the verge of graduation and new lives away from each other in different colleges, they get invited to the hottest girls party. Hoping to each hook up with their favourite girl, they must first buy the booze. Fogel has the fake licence, but this is one night they’ll never forget. Will they make it to the party?
From Judd Apatow (‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’) and Seth Rogen (‘Knocked Up’) comes a coming-of-age cautionary tale that shoves the likes of the ‘American Pie’ movies aside, easily becoming the smartest new kid on the block. It has SO many funny moments, mainly of embarrassment (wait til’ you see where the blood on Seth’s trousers comes from) that many would feature in the funniest moments of the year. My favourite characters were the two cops (played by Seth Rogen and Bill Hader) who spend the entire evening causing more chaos than any criminal ever could. Their adventure with ‘McLovin’ is the stuff of dreams. Both sincere and vulgar, I can’t wait to see ‘Superbad’ again and again.
