Daniel Day-Lewis doesn’t just act, he creates the character of Daniel Plainview as a living, breathing oil man that you can almost smell his stained hands. It’s even more amazing when you see the slight and unassuming Day-Lewis picking up awards and compare him to the violent and scary Plainview. Day-Lewis really is an incredible actor.
I always think it’s presumptuous to declare a movie as a ‘modern masterpiece’, but this really is a rare example where you can’t imagine people will ever say anything different in years to come. Magnificent.
