Attack the Block at Somerset House with Joe Cornish

Before Joe Cornish took the stage to introduce ‘Attack the Block’ on Saturday night at Somerset House, we managed to grab a few words with him.
Film Chronicles
How is Ant-Man going?
Joe Cornish
We have just handed in our last script
Film Chronicles
Is that your 3rd draft now?
Joe Cornish
Yep, and we have handed in some concept art and drawings of ‘Ant-Man’.
Film Chronicles
Has the concept art been based on anyone?
Joe Cornish
Yep, ‘Ant-Man’.
Film Chronicles
Ha, ha, I mean any particular actor you guys might have in mind?
Joe Cornish
No, I can’t say anything on that.
Film Chronicles
Is ‘Ant-Man’ set in the current MARVEL universe?
Joe Cornish
I’m not allowed to tell you, sorry man.
Film Chronicles
Have you seen ‘Captain America’ yet?
Joe Cornish
Yep.
Film Chronicles
And what did you think?
Joe Cornish
I thought is was fantastic, didn’t you? It’s right up there with the first Iron Man film.
Film Chronicles
We loved the first half, but felt it was pedestrian after that…
Joe Cornish
Joe Johnston has been fantastic on it and Chris Evans was amazing as ‘Captain America’, like Robert was ‘Iron Man’.
Film Chronicles
We can’t argue with that.
Joe Cornish
The effects were great, and when they shrunk him down, that was the best effects work I’ve ever seen on screen, I couldn’t see a single glitch.
Film Chronicles
It did look amazing. Well, thank you Joe and we’re looking forward to everything ‘Ant-Man’, and good luck with it.
Joe Cornish
Thanks
Not much was given away of course, but it did feel like Joe was obligated to say good things about MARVEL films, as what he said about Captain Amercia was almost a standard issue press release, which falls out of the mouth of every director and writer associated with the superhero studio.
On ‘Ant-Man’, it felt like it wasn’t going to be linked to the current MARVEL Universe, as Joe face seemed to give this impression.
All in all, we’re very much looking forward to seeing what Joe does with this project.
