32-year old Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) has managed to avoid responsibility up to now. Increasingly criticised for his outlook by girlfriend Vanessa, Sonny adopts five-year old Julian to prove he’s ready for responsibility. When Vanessa leaves him anyway, Sonny is stuck with the kid. Adam Sandler is the current comedy king and Big Daddy won’t harm his reputation. However... look beyond the cheap laughs and you have a dumb, irresponsible piece of film-making. Let’s face it, should anyone REALLY teach their kid to deliberately injure rollerbladers for a laugh? Sonny teaches his kid to become a yob! Still, it’s only a movie, right. Admittedly funny in parts, the whole thing has a clinical feel which leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
