BLACK AND WHITE
COLUMBIA TRISTAR
RELEASED 10 November 2000
A look at the differences between black and white in downtown New York. Documentary maker Sam (Brooke Shields), accompanied by husband Terry (Robert Downey Jnr.), follow a group of upper-class white kids who just wanna be black. There is a central storyline involving Ben Stiller’s undercover cop which ties the many characters together but the improv acting style leads to a somewhat rambling film. However, there are some great scenes, notably involving Mike Tyson as himself (yes, ‘Iron’ Mike - and he acts really well!) and Claudia Schiffer as an anthropological student - she’s not bad either with a American accent that just about works. Others in the cast include Jared Leto, Marla Maples and Method Man.
