Josh Hartnett plays a trendy San Francisco web designer who is sleeping with any female that moves after being dumped by the love of his life. But he’s getting no satisfaction, and after a talk with his priest-in-training brother, decides to completely give up all forms of sex for 40 days and 40 nights. But then he meets Erica...

What starts out promising gradually fizzles out and all we’re left is a light date movie. There is an orgasm scene which admittedly is pretty original and some of the scenes are quite funny but much of the story feels laboured, coincidences occuring just to move the story forwards. Among the entirely good-looking cast, Hartnett and Shanynn Sossamon (Erica) display the barest of chemistry. It has to be said that the movies’ pleasant foreplay builds to a disappointing climax. Limp.
