THE MATCH
POLYGRAM FILMED ENTERTAINMENT
RELEASED 13 August 1999
Wullie Smith (Max Beesley) is Inverdoune’s milkman, a village in the Scottish Highlands. Wullie loves Rosemary Bailey (Laura Fraser again) who has recently come back from University and plans to work in London. Every year a football match takes place between the villages’ two pubs, Benny’s Bar and L’Bistro (owned by Richard E. Grant doing Sean Connery!) because of a feud between the original owners. Benny’s has lost 99 times! But it’s only the result of the 100th match which will decide who get the keys to both pubs. Slow and predictable, this film is notable for the bizarre cast involved. Ian Holm, Tom Sizemore, Neil Morrissey, Sam Fox (yes, that one), plus cameos from unlikely stars! None of whom can save it.
