Too much Jack Ryan: not enough Shadow Recruit
Paramount renamed the bigscreen Jack Ryan reboot from the anonymous ‘Jack Ryan’ to the slightly-more mysterious (well, it IS about espionage) ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’.
Paramount took this decision because they don’t want too much of an association with recent high-profile flops ‘Jack Reacher‘ and ‘John Carter‘, although I think older audiences reach for the sick bag as soon as they hear the word ‘Jack’ and have nightmares about the Robin Williams / Francis Ford Coppola 1996 travesty.
How did the name ‘Jack’ ever become so popular? Surely the comedy highs of Robin Williams as a child inside a 40-year old body would kill off a name faster than ‘The Omen’ ever did?
The poster for ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ has just come out, and it’s clear that Paramount are still twitchy about that Jack Ryan bit, placing it in a quite small font above the larger ‘Shadow Recruit’ text. I am putting my services forward as the new poster designer for future ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ posters with my clever diversionary tactics. Hey, it’s still Jack Ryan, but you’d barely know it.

Smaller is better. I can make it smaller still if you want…

Jack Ryan is now huge! We’re not embarassed to call our film Jack Ryan. Although we have made it REALLY feint so you can’t really see it…

This one’s for the kids. ‘Jack Ryan’ becomes a cutsie dot above the ‘i’ in ‘Recruit’. Now if Paramount can get Miley and Justin ‘twerking’ on the soundtrack, we could be looking at ‘Twilight‘ numbers.
