S-CLUB: SEEING DOUBLE
COLUMBIA TRISTAR
RELEASED 11 April 2003
This is obviously one for the kids, so I made sure I saw it with a cinema-full of screaming terrors to see what their response would be. What little plot there is revolves around an evil scientist cloning the S-Club pop group to make a better-behaved version (I think!) Thrown into the film are four or five of the band’s best known hits, relating to what’s going on in the story at the time.
It’s blatantly obvious that as little money as possible has been spent on S-Club: Seeing Double. There was no spark or life to the film. The script (co-written by Kim Fuller I noticed, relative of band manager Simon I suppose) didn't have one good line. Not one. The kids only laughed once throughout the entire film when Bradley lost the back of his trousers to an angry dog. Towards the end there was a vague interest because of Gareth Gates and the pop star clones like Jacko.
And as for a couple of the 'adult jokes' such as the vibrating love egg and the 'best soaping he'd (a security guard) ever had' from Rachel, well the fact that this is most definitely a kids film disturbed me a little bit. They simply shouldn't have been in there (apart from the fact that they were cringingly unfunny).
