T2: JUDGEMENT DAY

T2: JUDGEMENT DAY

GUILD FILM

RELEASED 16 August 1991

t2Whether you prefer the more serious tone of the original to this lighter (some would say slightly camp) sequel is up to you, but what cannot be questioned is ‘T2’s superior action movie merits. This is one of the greatest action movies of all-time, a rollercoaster that never lets up, and James Cameron had already directed the awesome sequel ‘Aliens’. A new Terminator is introduced (the T-1000, played by Robert Patrick) which can disguise it’s liquid body as whoever it pleases. It can also become whatever weapon it wishes too, morphing arms into deadly spikes on more than one occasion. This T-1000 has again been sent back to now kill the teenage John Connor, and only a re-programmed T-800 sent back from the future by John Connor himself can stop it and protect the future leader of the resistance. ‘Judgement Day’ refers to the day that Skynet becomes self-aware and destroys most of humanity with nuclear weapons, with the few people left forming the resistance and fighting back.

Edward Furlong plays the young John Connor, and Linda Hamilton also returns as Sarah. Arnold sports a different haircut this time out, and as he’s the good guy, is given some comedic moments as well as a fatherly figure role to the young John. Arnie gets a new line (‘Hasta la vista, baby’), and sadly, this sequel was, for all-intents-and-purposes, the end of the franchise as a seriously exciting action series.
