V for Vendetta

V FOR VENDETTA
WB
RELEASED 17 March 2006
In a futuristic totalitarian Britain, ‘V’ is a Guy Fawkes-masked freedom fighter scaring the life out of the government. One night, Evey (Natalie Portman) is rescued by him and uncovers his secret world of revolution and anarchy.
Dark, questioning, and extremely engaging, this political thriller has a keen eye for well-timed action scenes but never allows them to overshadow the overall message of the film.
Portman’s English accent quivers, but her acting more than makes up for it, once again proving herself one of Hollywood’s top young actresses. Her scenes alongside Hugo Weaving as ‘V’ are perfect, both moving and thrilling, with some rich and ‘Shakespearean’ dialogue delivered from behind the mask. Stephen Fry and Stephen Rea top the host of British stars.
